All about “Information Science”

เพื่อเป็นการเตรียมความพร้อมของการสอบวัดคุณสมบัติของการเรียนหลักสูตรสารสนเทศศาสตร์ ที่จะเกิดขึ้นในอีกไม่กี่สัปดาห์ข้างหน้านี้ … เลยลองค้นข้อมูลเล่นๆ ว่าในโลกนี้ เขาพูดถึง “Information Science” กันว่าอย่างไรบ้าง … อะไรคือ อดีต ปัจจุบัน และอนาคต ของศาสตร์ด้านนี้

• Information science ความหมายตามพจนานุกรม คือ an interdisciplinary science primarily concerned with the analysis, collection, classification, manipulation, storage, retrieval and dissemination of information
• รายละเอียดเกี่ยวกับ Information Science หาอ่านได้ใน วิกิพีเดีย
• “Knowledge Map of Information Science” ของ Chaim Zins ลงในวารสาร Journal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology ปี 2007 ซึ่งจะมีด้วยกัน 4 บทความ เป็นบทความที่มีความสำคัญมากสำหรับจุดยืนของสาขานี้ และควรต้องอ่าน
• ปัจจุบัน สถาบันการศึกษาทางด้านนี้แถวยุโรปและอเมริกา จำนวนกว่า 30 แห่ง ได้รวมตัวผลึกกำลังกันเป็นเครือข่าย เรียกว่า I-Schools หรือ Schools of Information แถวบ้านเราก็มี ชื่อว่า CISAP (Consortium of iSchools Asia Pacific)

ว่ากันว่า ศาสตร์นี้ ไม่ได้เน้นการค้นพบองค์ความรู้ใหม่ (Discovery) สักเท่าไหร่ แต่เน้นที่การพัฒนา (Development) มากกว่า ลองอ่านบทความนี้ดูก็แล้ววกัน .. What has information science contributed to the world?

อย่างไรก็ตาม ตามความเห็นส่วนตัวแล้ว ในโลกอนาคต เราว่าอาชีพ Information Professional ไม่น่าจะจำเป็นต้องมีมากนัก ยกเว้นจะเก่งและรู้ลึกจริงๆ เพราะคนส่วนใหญ่ที่ใช้อินเทอร์เน็ตเป็น ก็น่าจะทำตัวเป็น Information Professional ได้ด้วยตัวเองในระดับหนึ่ง .. โดยเฉพาะคนรุ่นใหม่ๆ นะ (เราว่า)
